One of the most recognizable images from Christian scripture and developed richly in theological literature, political philosophy, and material culture, the New Jerusalem of the New Testament book of Revelation has taken on a life of its own since the image was developed nearly 20 centuries ago. This volume features 15 scholarly essays that investigate the development of the idea of the New Jerusalem through the first millennium AD in a wide variety of time periods, traditions, geographies, and languages. It may be considered a companion volume to Nathan Betz's City of Gods: The New Jerusalem of John’s Revelation in Early Christianity (until ca. 312) (Brill, 2024).
