Students with Disabilities

Additional Navigation

St. John’s College is committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all students where diversity is valued in the pursuit of knowledge. Each student brings unique perspectives, abilities, and skills which together form the greater community in which we live, work, and learn. Students with disabilities are just one group of students that comprise our diverse community.

St. John’s College works with students seeking reasonable accommodations as outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act including academic accommodations, housing accommodations, and policy accommodations. All students are required to meet the academic and technical standards of the College with or without academic accommodations. Students are not required to register for accommodations, identify themselves to any members of the College community as a person with a disability, or utilize accommodations they do not need or want.

If a student would like accommodations, it is the responsibility of the student to seek accommodations and to learn more about the options available. The granting of accommodations is an interactive process that requires the active involvement of the student. Accommodation requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis within the structure of the College program. Accommodations are not retroactive, so it is important that students seek accommodations in a timely fashion to avoid unanticipated consequences.

Federal Program Integrity Rules

In accordance with the new Federal Program Integrity rules effective July 1, 2011, the New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) will review complaints regarding public and private postsecondary institutions in New Mexico as well as New Mexico resident students attending out-of-state institutions. NMHED will receive complaints that were unable to be resolved through the institution’s internal complaint process.
