Long predating Hogwarts, every Johnnie is automatically allocated to one of five long-standing intramural teams: the Druids, Greenwaves, Guardians, Hustlers, and Spartans. Participation is voluntary and open to all, regardless of ability. More than 50 percent of students participate. The intramural program is one of the most distinctive and beloved aspects of social life at St. John’s.
Intercollegiate sports include crew, croquet, fencing, and sailing. One of the college’s most cherished traditions is the annual croquet match versus the United States Naval Academy. St. John’s competes at the National Collegiate Croquet Championships and holds more national titles than any other team in the league.
Enjoy team competition in soccer, flag football, basketball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, and team handball. Plus, there are often tennis and table tournaments.
The college participates in intercollegiate croquet, sailing, crew, and fencing—no experience required!
With College Creek flowing along the back edge of campus, outdoor activities abound, from swimming and fishing to sailing and rowing.

Hodson Boathouse overlooks College Creek and is the gathering place of the crew and sailing teams. The top floor can be rented out for special events.
