Jeremiah: Prophet to America Today
During more than fifty years of studying and teaching the biblical narrative, I have read the Book of Jeremiah many times. I have always been struck with its relevance to the world today, specifically the United States of America. I’m grieving the state of my country and wonder why God hasn’t judged it like He did Israel and other nations before and after. Jeremiah’s words, God’s words, were addressed not only to the people of Jeremiah’s time but also to future generations as a warning of the limits to God’s “kindness, tolerance, and patience.” What insights can we glean from God’s words conveyed through Jeremiah that hold significance for us in America? I conclude each chapter with a few thought-provoking questions designed to help us understand our personal connection to God’s judgments. In this way, this book can serve as a valuable tool for personal or small group discipleship.
