Outside Referrals

The St. John’s College Counseling Center is equipped to help with many conditions; however, it is possible that you need a level of care that is beyond what the Counseling Center can provide. While we make every effort to identify this prior to scheduling an appointment, it is possible this determination will not be made until you have met with a provider. In that case, we would work to refer you to an appropriate community outpatient provider.

Common reasons the Counseling Center would refer a student to outpatient resources include requiring specialized and/or more intensive services than the Counseling Center can provide, such as:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Substance use treatment
  • Eating disorder treatment
  • Day hospital programs
  • Psychological evaluations
