Annapolis Graduate Institute Convening Weekend

The Annapolis Graduate Institute’s Fall 2026 Convening Weekend will be held on Friday, September 25–Saturday, September 26. Attendance at two such weekends (or studying for at least one semester on-campus) is required for those completing the Low-Residency degree, and we envision the weekends as events for the entire Graduate Institute community. Academic and social activities are open to GI students, faculty, staff, and alumni unless otherwise indicated, and are planned to help us get to know one another as a community of learners–whether we are current students or alumni, whether we attend classes in-person or online. For copies of the seminar readings, for more information or to RSVP please reach out to Assistant Director for Graduate Student Services, Kashya Boretsky at kashya.boretsky(at)sjc.edu.

Friday, September 25

Time Event
All Day “Open Office” Hosted by Brendan Boyle, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.
This event is for visiting students or alumni to visit and have a cup of coffee.
12–1 p.m. Check in at the Barr-Buchanan Center
1 p.m. Campus Tour Led by Kashya Boretsky, Assistant Director for Graduate Student Services
2 p.m. Greenfield Library Orientation for Low-Residency Students
3 p.m. Seminar on "Introductory" and "Chapter 1: The Lamp of Sacrifice," from John Ruskin’s The Seven Lamps of Architecture
4:30 p.m. Master’s Essay Oral Examination for Mr. McGowan
5:30 p.m. Opening Reception and Dinner in the Hodson Boathouse. Low-Residency students who have not previously signed the College Register will have a chance to do so as part of the event.
7:30 p.m. Friday Night Lecture given by Travis Price (SF71)
9 p.m. Stargazing with Astronomy Assistants (Weather Permitting)

Saturday, September 26

10:30 a.m. Brunch in Barr-Buchanan Center
12 p.m. Convening Weekend Seminar on "From Carlsbad to Venice," from Goethe's Italian Journey
1:45 p.m. Choral Singing with Mr. Freeman (no experience required)
3 p.m. Laboratory Practicum on Plants
4:15 p.m. Open Forum on the State of the Graduate Institute with Associate Dean Brendan Boyle
5:15 p.m. Closing Reception in Barr-Buchanan Center
