Tuition for Winter Classics is $880 per individual seminar.
Full payment is due at the time of reservation. Twenty-five percent of the payment is non-refundable, while the remaining seventy-five percent can be refunded if a request is made by December 16, 2026. See Cancellation Policies for more information.
St. John’s College offers a discount to full-time K–12 teachers or a licensed homeschool provider. With proof of current employment, participants receive a 50% discount on seminar tuition. Discounts are available to the first 15 teacher registrants. When registering online, please select that you are a teacher and then provide the name and address of your place of employment and contact information of someone who is authorized to verify your employment. You will need to enter the discount code EDUC to apply the price change. For additional questions about this discount, please contact classics(at)sjc.edu.
No-fee seminar changes offer registrants flexibility. If for any reason you need or prefer to switch your seminar, you can transfer your enrollment to any other seminar with an open space, at no extra cost.
Requests for a seminar change must be requested by email at classics(at)sjc.edu.
A partial refund of seventy-five percent of the total seminar fee is available for cancellations made by December 16, 2026.
If St. John’s College cancels a seminar, then participants will receive either a full refund or the option to switch to another available class.
To join a waitlist for a full seminar (listed as “sold out”), submit your request online through the registration page. No fee is required to join the waitlist.
If a spot in the desired seminar becomes available, those on the waitlist will be offered the spot in the order that they joined the waitlist.
If you are contacted and offered an open spot, you will be asked to respond in a specific number of days to claim the seat. If you decline or we don’t hear from you in the allotted time, the seat will be released to the next person on the waitlist. If the waitlist has been exhausted, the seminar will be reopened to new registrants.
Occasionally, a large waitlist will indicate a level of interest that warrants exploring the addition of a new seminar section; therefore, we invite you to use the waitlist so we can best serve your interests.
If you register for more than one seminar, texts are provided free of charge. Book distribution for multi-seminar registrants begins in mid-November. Those who qualify will be contacted by email in advance to arrange for shipping. This complimentary service is available only if you register for multiple seminars before December 7, 2026. This deadline ensures that your books will arrive with enough time for you to read them before your first seminar, and also helps to account for unforeseeable shipping delays.
The college reserves the right to make tutor substitutions if necessary. All affected registrants will be notified of a tutor substitution.
The college reserves the right to cancel a seminar due to low enrollment. All registrants in a cancelled seminar qualify for a full refund and will be offered priority enrollment in an alternative seminar of their choice with available capacity.
Should a seminar need to be cancelled due to a natural disaster or similar event, participants will be notified by email, and every attempt will be made to reschedule.
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must send a notification by email to classics(at)sjc.edu of their status as a minor at the time of registration.
St. John’s seminars are conversations. Conversations are live events among those present in the class; therefore classes are not recorded, even if the person interested in recording asks permission from the tutor and class members. This is a policy for all St. John’s classes.
Information regarding seminars will be communicated by email. For questions please email classics(at)sjc.edu.
Registration, Zoom links, and meeting information will be communicated by email according to the schedule shared in the registration confirmation. Please look for a confirmation email after you register.
Recommended text editions are listed below each seminar description in the Seminar Catalog.
For the best personal seminar experience, you are strongly encouraged to use the recommended text edition and translation for your class.
Both the Annapolis and Santa Fe campuses have well stocked bookstores. We invite you to visit in person or use the online St. John’s College Bookstore to purchase your seminar texts. We understand you have many choices for book purchases, and your support is appreciated.
Those who are new to a St. John’s College seminar—online or in-person—are invited to read this introduction to the seminar method: Learning Through Conversation.
Please note that although this document addresses the in-person format, it is equally applicable for an online seminar. (Online St. John’s College seminars are, in their essence, the same format as in-person seminars.)
The Zoom Guide for Seminar Participants contains technical instructions as well as helpful hints for participating in a St. John’s College seminar hosted on the Zoom platform.
Zoom link information will be sent to registrants approximately two weeks before the program begins, with a reminder sent one day before your first seminar.
