Whether you live nearby or are only in-town for a day or two, you are invited to visit the Mitchell Art Museum and enjoy the beauty of the St. John’s College campus. We also welcome school and community groups. To make the most of your visit, consider taking advantage of our educational opportunities:
Enjoy a staff- or docent-led private tour. Call (410-626-2556) or email (mitchellartmuseum(at)sjc.edu) for a schedule or to make an arrangement for yourself or your group.
We offer a variety of learning opportunities with each exhibition. Descriptions and dates can be found on the college’s event calendar. These programs are open to the public and most are free of charge.
Are you as much of a book nerd as we are? Join us for one or more Mitchell Art Museum Book Club readings. With most exhibitions, members of the St. John’s College community lead discussions on books that complement each exhibit. Dates are noted on the event calendar.
As a member of the campus community, you will occasionally have special access to educational activities organized by the Mitchell Art Museum that are not available to the broader public, as part of the Mitchell Art Museum’s support of the Program and student life. These may include small workshops with visiting guests, conversation-based receptions, paid internships, and fellowships.
Want to learn more about art, art administration, art history, or curating? And get paid for it? During the school year, the Mitchell Art Museum offers on-site paid internships up to 10 hours per week. Contact the museum director to learn more.
If you are looking for a summer internship, we keep a list of opportunities at other museums that we can email you so you can apply directly. Contact the Career Development office if the internship you want is unpaid and they may be able to help you with financial support.
Want to spend part of your summer studying bronze casting in upstate New York and Paris? The Newington-Cropsey Foundation offers a fellowship to St. John’s College students to do just that. The application deadline is March 1. Contact the museum for more information.
Entrance to the Mitchell Art Museum and restrooms are barrier-free. Please contact the museum if other assistance is required at 410-626-2556.
