St. John’s College Launches 'Great Books' Podcast and Web Series

St. John’s College, the third-oldest college in the U.S. and considered the most contrarian college for its distinct and steadfast approach to the liberal arts—reading and discussing 3,000 years of Great Books over the course of four years—is launching a 20-episode podcast and web series examining the mysteries of who we are as humans and why we see each other and the world as we do.

St. John’s to Launch Original Web and Podcast Series

In January, the college will launch an original web and podcast series called Continuing the Conversation, which will feature faculty members engaged in one-on-one conversations about the ideas that animate them, often emanating from the Great Books.

When Emily Langston arrived at St. John’s in January 1995 as tutor, her goal was simple: to read the works of the Program. In 2016, after 20 years happily immersed in teaching in the undergraduate Program, she was appointed to the position of associate dean of the Graduate Institute in Annapolis. Ahead of Langston’s final year as the associate dean, we sat down with her for an interview to discuss the past, present, and future of the Graduate Institute and liberal education.

Published by The MIT Press, Peter Pesic’s new book Sounding Bodies completes a trilogy on the profound influence of music on the sciences. A long-time tutor at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, he is Director of the Science Institute and Musician-in-Residence.
